In Diablo IV, the "Serpentine Path" is a challenging and atmospheric quest that follows directly after the Judgement of the Swamp quest. After participating in a ritual with Lorath and Neyrelle to find the elusive Tree of Whispers, the three of you awaken in a strange place, with Neyrelle seeing something peculiar. As you move forward, you’ll find yourself on a Diablo IV Items serpentine journey—both figuratively and literally—through dangerous lands.

Starting the Quest: Following the Serpent

Once you wake up, Neyrelle mentions she sees something ahead. If you follow her, you’ll soon encounter the body of a serpent. Although you and Neyrelle can clearly see the serpent, Lorath is only able to see a cloud of smoke. This begins the next phase of your quest, where your goal is to track the serpent. However, the map does not show any obvious paths, leaving you to follow the serpent's body northeast on your own.

As you travel along this unmarked path, be prepared to face waves of enemies. On your journey, you’ll encounter Nangari Oracles and Nangari Spitters—both formidable opponents—so be ready for some tough combat.

The Sinking Detritus: Ambush and Battle

After a while, you’ll reach an area called the Sinking Detritus. Lorath will finally be able to see the serpent clearly and will describe what he perceives in the serpent’s scales. Before you can react, an ambush occurs, and you’re swarmed by Nangari Longfangs, Nangari Oracles, and Nangari Spitters. This battle can be overwhelming, but it’s important to hold your ground and defeat the waves of enemies.

During the chaos of battle, Neyrelle will notice a small path beneath the serpent’s form. She will leave, but you’ll be left to fend off waves of Nangari enemies, including an Elite Nangari Longfang. Once you defeat this elite foe and the final wave, the ambush will cease, and Neyrelle will reappear, dropping a ladder to help you escape.

Climbing to Safety

Climb up the ladder, then descend on the other side to enter the Venom-Drenched Path. This marks the end of the Serpentine Path. At this point, you'll have successfully navigated the dangers of the swamp and survived the serpentine trial.

Rewards

For your efforts, you’ll receive experience points (XP) and gold based on your character level. At level 40, the rewards are 20,908 XP and 2,460 gold, though these numbers will vary depending on your own level.

After completing the Serpentine Path, the buy diablo 4 gear next quest, Dirge of the Mire, will immediately begin, taking you deeper into the treacherous world of Diablo IV.
